Jackie Rezuke - Volunteer In The News

Picture
Jackie, a Graphic artist specializing in photographic retouching and restoration, joined the SSMA Board when a friend and Board Member invited her to a meeting.  Jackie is so glad she was encouraged to join.  "It's a great group of people.  We get so much accomplished but at the same time have fun doing it," she said.  As a part of SSMA, Jackie has helped with the Music Drive, All State Auditions, Music Awards Night, Rockin' Winter Wonderland, Junior Central District Festival, Concert Attire and baking/selling refreshments.  Jackie designed the new SSMA logo earlier this year.

Two daughters, a son, a love of music and theater and an artist's skills have turned Jackie Rezuke into a versatile volunteer and SSMA Board member. When Jackie's older daughter Julie started to perform in musicals at Oak Middle School in 2006, Jackie quickly learned how much work is done behind the scenes and became a costume volunteer. When Julie moved up to SHS, she became very active in music and theatre, performing in many plays and musicals and singing in Women's Choir. Jackie's son John next came to SHS, where he was a member of A Cappella Choir and performed in Variety Shows, Student Composer Night and was in the Spring Musical his Senior Year.

Jackie learned much more at SHS about how many people is takes for a successful production--from costumes, sets, props, hair and makeup.  "It's really a team effort involving many creative and talented people, and I knew I wanted to help out and be a part of this," Jackie recalled. Being an artist Jackie was drawn to set painting.  She has been painting sets at Oak Middle and SHS for 8 years where she assisted Nathan Colby and Liz Ushinski who Jackie said are both incredible artists.  Jackie is amazed at how they can take ordinary objects and turn them into beautiful things.  An great example of these transformations was the pumpkin coach and horses in the SHS 2015 Spring Musical "Cinderella".  Most of the large work is done on stage, but Jackie also bring smaller elements home to work on.  She really enjoys the projects that involve detail, lettering and colorful designs.

Some of Jackie's favorite memories of SSMA involve marching with the SSMA in the Spirit of Shrewsbury parade as well as the wonderful get-togethers hosted by George and Joanne Smith.  Jackie plans to continue to be involved in SSMA as her daughter Angela is a member of the SHS Freshman class and will be pursuing her own love of music and theater at SHS.
