SSMA Scholarships

The SSMA awards six scholarships each year. Three are awarded to graduating seniors who plan to major in Music or Theater at an accredited college, one to a graduating senior planning to major in Education, and two to graduating seniors who have participated in music or theater while in high school but who do not plan to major in these areas while attending their college or university.

The Scholarships are:

• The Dorothy Bell Scholarship ($1,000)
    For graduates going on to major in Music or Theater.
• The Jack Feldheimer Scholarship ($1,000)
    For graduates going on to major in Music or Theater.
• The Kathleen Viscardi Scholarship ($1,000)
    For graduates going on to major in Music or Theater.
• The Bonnie Narcisi Scholarship ($500)
    For graduates who have participated in Music or Theater and are going on to major in education.
• The Philip Koziara Scholarship ($500)
    For graduates who have participated in Music or Theater during high school.
• The Ralph Metcalf Scholarship ($500)
    For graduates who have participated in Music or Theater during high school.

Requirements

1. The applicant must have been a member of one or more regularly scheduled high school major performing group for four (4) years: Band, Choir, Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Theater.
2. The applicant must be accepted to an accredited four (4) year college, university, or music conservatory.

Procedure

The SSMA Scholarship Committee will evaluate the applications on the basis of all the information received and the documents submitted. Scholarships will be awarded at the Performing Arts Awards Night. All decisions are final. The designated sum will then be sent to the applicant after proof of acceptance (such as acceptance letter from the conservatory, college, or university) is submitted to the SSMA. If the school does not allow students to declare a performance major until a later date, the award will be held until such documentation is provided. If not all of the scholarships are awarded, the remaining funds will be returned to the general fund of the SSMA.

Required documents

All applicants will need to include two letters of recommendation and a copy of their unofficial high school transcripts with their applications. Instructions for uploading and/or sending them to the SSMA Scholarship Committee are included in the online application form.

Deadline

All applications must be submitted by 11:59 PM on MARCH 23, 2020. Submissions after this time will not be accepted.
