SSMA Scholarships

SSMA scholarship applications are closed and are under consideration.

The SSMA will award seven scholarships (one more than in previous years). Three are awarded to graduating seniors who plan to major in Music or Theater at an accredited college, one to a graduating senior planning to major in Education, and three to graduating seniors with any intended major.

The Scholarships are:
  • The Dorothy Bell Scholarship ($1,000) for graduates with a major in Music or Theater.
  • The Jack Feldheimer Scholarship ($1,000) for graduates with a major in Music or Theater.
  • The Kathleen Viscardi Scholarship ($1,000) for graduates with a major in Music or Theater.
  • The Bonnie Narcisi Scholarship ($500) for graduates with a major in Education.
  • The Philip Koziara Scholarship ($500) for graduates with any major.
  • The Ralph Metcalf Scholarship ($500) for graduates with any major.
  • The Myrtle Young Scholarship ($500) for graduates with any major. *New for 2021!

Requirements

1. The applicant must be a current SHS senior and have been a member of one or more regularly scheduled major performing group (Band, Choir, Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, or Theater) for at least three (3) of their high school years, including credit from other schools for students who have transferred to SHS.
2. The applicant must be accepted to an accredited four (4) year college, university, or performing arts conservatory.

Procedure

The SSMA Scholarship Committee will evaluate the applications on the basis of all the information received and the documents submitted. Scholarships will be awarded at the Performing Arts Awards Night. All decisions are final. The designated sum will then be sent to the applicant after proof of acceptance (such as acceptance letter from the conservatory, college, or university) is submitted to the SSMA. If the school does not allow students to declare a performance major until a later date, the award will be held until such documentation is provided. If not all of the scholarships are awarded, the remaining funds will be returned to the general fund of the SSMA.

Deadline

All applications must be submitted by 11:59 PM on MARCH 19, 2021. Submissions after this deadline will not be accepted.
